Product information "Prior Backcountry XTC Carbon Splitboard"

The Backcountry Split (BC Split) has been refined over the years but is the original Freeride shape designed by Chris Prior in the early 90’s; the BC Split is a classic example of a true, all mountain shape that maintains its role in the line as the workhorse of the fleet.

Its directional Freeride shape delivers a smooth, stable ride in a variety of different snow conditions and the Hybrid Rocker Profile only adds to its versatility;  rocker in the nose and tail for turn initiation and float while maintaining traditional camber underfoot for added stability, rebound and edgehold. With minimal taper, the BC Split provides both power and drive on edge while allowing the playful rider to land or ride switch.

In 2018 the shape got a small update. Thanks to Twin Rocker technology, it now has even more edge hold and is even more direct.

polyvalent by nature

Have just ride this board two times but it's like i own it since 5 year.
Really light for climbing, polyvalent, So effective in powder but really reactive on hard snow.
Thanks a lot to the splitboard.eu team for their advice and availability.
This is exactly the board i was looking for !!

PRIOR BC XTC

Why are the “Prior XTC“ splitboards so light? Well, that's a complex question that's not easy to answer, but I'd like to try.

The principle is still relatively simple: Normally glass fibre braiding is used in a split or snowboard. This has its own weight and provides strength. Flex and preload are also retained longer and better. A split- or snowboard only made of wood would become much too heavy or break too easily.

In a “XTC“ splitboard, the fiberglass braid is now replaced by a carbon braid. Carbon is lighter than glass fiber. BUT: It's also spröder – and here's the main problem! It was therefore necessary to find out how the carbon braid had to be processed. This is because the flex specified by the designer and the properties of the respective splitboard model must of course be retained. Fast is a snowboard with carbon clearly too hard in the Flex, whereby the driving fun suffers naturally extremely.

Prior has now developed a method in countless experiments how it can obtain the flex of the individual Prior shapes almost 1:1. And on top of that you save weight with “XTC Carbon“. In this technology, Prior is the leader and has the largest product selection in the splitboard market. And here's the answer to the opening question: How the guys from Prior do it in detail is top secret and is heard like a treasure! That Prior is a leader in the processing of carbon laminates is not without reason. Prior has been building splitboards since the 90s and has always experimented a lot. That's about 20 years of development experience!

No snowboard brand has recognized the potential of splitboards so early (late 90s) and invested unconditionally in technology and development. It is therefore not surprising that Prior has the widest and most technically advanced splitboard product range. The secret of success lies in the size of the company Prior, which still belongs to Chris Prior. In such small companies, where the boss is still in the press himself, one can react much more flexibly and develop more cost-effectively. The customer gets a genuine hand made product from Canada and you can tell from the first momentum.

The backcountry of Prior in XTC

A model student through and through. The basic shape has been slightly modified for many years, or when new materials or styles of construction have materially changed. The model character has been preserved over all these years. In all the test years, I do not know any drivers who gave the backcountry less than grade 2. If you can accuse him of something that he is not even polarized and "Everybodies Darling" is, from the first moment on whether powder or piste. Incidentally, the Jones Solution is the equivalent to this shape - the two are almost like twins, but only almost. When Prior brought out the world's first female splitboard shape, it was not surprising that the backcountry shape was the template for that. The backcountry is also the sales scarf No.1 and is offered in 4cm steps. Here you can choose as a 1.8m driver the 168, big feet (> = 47) a 168 in wide.
