ROME SDS has a long and eventful snowboard history. Like many other brands, e.g. Amplid by Peter Bauer, the ROME guys at Burton have learned their trade. That was a long time ago. With their own company, they wanted to counter the extreme commercialization of the snowboard industry at that time. Snowboarding was in the beginning a small revolutionary movement of "Intusiasts". In between it became a totally overcrowded industrial mass product. Today, the market has settled down. What remained is the reflection on the essential. Rome SDS are 100% snowboarders. That's why they are one of the few brands that really produce everything for snowboarding. Clothing, binding boots - simply everything. So they also tried very hard with their new splitboards to offer something honest at a fair price. I was curious about the brand, so I contacted ROME SDS last season and got their splitboard products to come.
Then 20/21 the disaster, ROME is bought up by the Swiss-based Nidecker Group (which also have JONES in the portfolio).
Since there are already enough splitboard in the family-run group of companies, one makes the wrong decision that ROME should no longer have splitboards.
Thanks to the commitment of Rome employees and I have also made myself strong for this, this wrong decision but only for 1 season. Already in spring 2021 I have the first sample and so for 21/22 the UPRISE is built in the same production as JONES or Arbor, in Dubai.
Conclusion: Also the new. slightly modified shape gets both thumbs up. Fine and agile all mountain shape with everything you need. Furthermore, ROME has great boots with great attention to detail.
